Red blood cell disorders

Red blood cell (RBC) problems are diseases that affects red blood cells. These cells of blood that carry oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. There are many different types of red blood cell disorders, including are nutritional anemia, sickle cell disease, Thalassemia, Hemolytic anemia, Polycythemia and others.

White blood cell disorders

White blood cells (WBCs), also called leukocytes, are the cells of the immune system that protect the body against infectious disease, allergens, and other foreign invaders. The number of white blood cells in the blood can often tell the health care provider if a disease is present. The normal number of white blood cells is usually between 4,000–11,000 cells per microliter of blood. Having more WBCs in the blood than normal is called leukocytosis, and having fewer WBCS than normal is called leukopenia.

Platelet disorders

Platelet disorders are conditions that occur when the platelet count in your blood is too high or too low or your platelets do not work properly. Platelets are tiny blood cells that are made in the bone marrow from larger cells. When you are injured, platelets form a plug, called a blood clot, to seal your wound. Blood clots help stop or slow down bleeding. The diseases of platelets ate immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), thrombocytosis and others.

Blood cancers

Blood cancers affect the production and function of your blood cells. Most of these cancers start in your bone marrow where blood is produced. Bone marrow failure disorders may be either inherited or acquired, and understanding their cause can help guide important treatments.

Immunodeficiency disorders

The immune system protects the body from germs and other threats. But sometimes it gets off track and has a weaker response to these threats. This low activity is called immune deficiency and it makes you less able to fight off infections. The two main types of immunodeficiency disorders are primary and secondary. Many people with primary immunodeficiency are born missing some of the body's immune defenses or with the immune system not working properly, which leaves them more susceptible to germs that can cause infections.

Bleeding disorders

A bleeding disorder is a condition that affects the way your blood normally clots. The clotting process, also known as coagulation, changes blood from a liquid to a solid. When you’re injured, your blood normally begins to clot to prevent a massive loss of blood. Sometimes, certain conditions prevent blood from clotting properly, which can result in heavy or prolonged bleeding. Examples are Hemophilia, Von Willebrand’s disease, Glanzmann’s disease, Bernard-Soulier syndrome and other factor deficiencies.

Bone marrow/stem cell transplanation

Blood stem cell transplants are used to treat patients whose bone marrow is not producing healthy blood cells. Nearly 100 potentially fatal blood disorders, including several types of Blood Cancer, Thalassemia and Apastic anemia, are treated with bone marrow transplants taking the support of stem cell donors. The unhealthy cells of the matched patient will be destroyed with Chemotherapy and healthy blood stem cells collected from a donor will be transplanted.
