One fine morning, in mid of 2019, a 11 years old girl from rural background was walking with the support of her mother into my OPD. Her skin was full of black patches and mother had given history of multiple blood and platelet transfusions.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive cancer of the blood and bone marrow. AML accounts for approximately 20% of acute leukemia in children and 80% of acute leukemia in adults. The risk of developing AML increases with age.
Blood stem cell transplants are used to treat patients whose bone marrow is not producing healthy blood cells. Nearly 100 potentially fatal blood disorders, including several types of Blood Cancer, Thalassemia and Apastic anemia, are treated with bone marrow transplants taking the support of stem cell donors.
